The much talked about “Dr. Strange” movie has not found a leading man yet, but fans of the Marvel character can now at least rest assured that the production for the big screen adaptation is moving forward. Disney set a release date for the upcoming movie on a weekend that has not been claimed by other big players. July 8, 2016 is officially booked by the “Dr. Strange” project, so we‘ll have to wait and see who is prepared to take on Marvel/ Disney on what could be one of their most successful releases.
Production is scheduled to kick off at U.K.’s Pinewood Shepperton this fall, with filming to start as soon as May 2015. The last time we checked in with casting news, The Hollywood Reporter was pretty sure that Joaquin Phoenix is the latest Hollywood heavyweight to be added to the mix of hopefuls to take on the coveted role. Edgar Ramirez, Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jared Leto and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are also rumoured to play the greatest protector against magical peril in the Marvel Universe. Scott Derrickson will direct with a script rewritten by Jon Spaihts.
For those of you not in the know, here is good description for Dr. Stephen Strange, courtesy of Comicvine.com:
“Dr. Stephen Strange was once a gifted but egotistical surgeon who sought out the Ancient One to heal his hands after they were wounded in a car accident. Instead, the Ancient One trained him to become Master of the Mystic Arts and the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth.”
