Now is the worst time to buy an iPhone. The Apple world is heating up and in less than 2 weeks we should have 2 brand spanking new iPhone models. Of course it is all still rumours, but the amount of evidence supporting these rumours are simply too overwhelming.
Apple should release two new iPhone models come 10 September. The iPhone 5S, and the iPhone 5C.
The iPhone 5S is the upgrade from the iPhone 5. It will look exactly like the iPhone 5 on the outside. The inside is where all the upgrades will be: The iPhone 5S will have a faster processor, a better battery and maybe a dual LED flash for the camera. We’ve also seen hints that iPhone 5S will have a fingerprint scanner in the home button so that you’ll never have to type in your PIN again. And if you like standing out, it looks like the 5S will come in gold (and maybe graphite?) in addition to traditional black and white.
The key point here is that the new iPhone 5S will come at the exact same price as a current iPhone 5 (give or take a few dollars). So there is absolutely no reason why you should not wait for either the iPhone 5S to become available in your area, or for the iPhone 5 to drop it’s price.
Then there’s the iPhone 5C. This is the budget iPhone we’ve written quite a bit about here on GS. This will be a cheaper phone in all aspects. It can be seen as Apple’s entry into the middle-class smartphone market. the iPhone 5C could have a scaled down memory, CPU and/or storage. We’re pretty sure the iPhone 5c will have a back made of plastic and come in various colours. So it’s a bit of a departure from your typical flagship iPhone. Its guts are likely to be recycled from older models (probably the 4S), and it stands to be a cheaper, more durable, more colourful option.
Chances are that if you are ready for an upgrade that you own an iPhone 4 or 4S, which means with the iPhone 5C you will get the exact same specs as your current iPhone, with a funky new case, at a cheaper price.
If you are in the market for an iPhone, we strongly recommend you wait until 10 September. Then you will know exactly what your options are. We will also take you through it so be sure to check in here after 10 September for our review of everything Apple released.
