The “Timecop” reboot will be moving forward with Mark and Brian Gunn (“Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”) tapped as scribes. It is unclear if veteran action man Jean-Claude Van Damme, the star of the 1994 film of the same name will be involved in the production. The original flick is based on a comic book that follows the time-travel exploits of a police officer that stops a corrupt politician from exploiting time travelling for personal gain, while also saving his pregnant wife from being murdered. Marc Shmuger (“We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks”) will serve as a producer along with Mike Richardson from Dark Horse Comics as executive producer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter:
“The first movie had the sci-fi elements very much in the foreground; however, this version of Timecop is a more gritty and grounded police story with the sci-fi in the background, though it will still have the main character on a personal journey.”
What we should be asking in all seriousness just about now….. will the star of the upcoming reboot be able to do the splits without flinching? Keep that in mind when the time comes for casting the lead role Hollywood. It’s bad enough that our favorite cheesy action flicks are being remade, at least get someone who can do the splits without dropping a testicle.
The futuristic movie spawned a forgettable direct-to-video sequel called “Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision”, a nine episode TV series in 1997 and a video game.
Believe it or not geeks, there are two more Van Damme flicks receiving the reboot treatment:
