The announcement that Ben Affleck will be the new “Caped Crusader” has caused an Internet frenzy. Unhappy fans have launched a Change.org petition, urging the studio to “Remove Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne in the Superman/Batman movie,” 50,000 supporters have signed since it was started.

One of the fans stated:

“I’m tired of people screwing with Batman. It’s bad enough that we lost any possibility to experience Ledger’s performance of the joker again. Now’s not the time to soften Batman’s image. The franchise needs stability and movies need to get back to cannon. Affleck just isn’t the man for the job. Bale can bring it.”

Many fans took to Twitter to voice their disapproval, 71 percent of the talk was negative according to social media analytics firm Fizziology.

The opening sentence reads: “His acting skill is not even close to being believable as Bruce Wayne and he won’t do the role justice.” Ouch!

In all fairness, replacing Bale was an impossible task to begin with. Unfortunately this reaction would have been expected from 90% of the rumored actors that was shortlisted for the coveted role if they were selected. Having seen Affleck as a superhero, portraying the Darevil (which received mostly negative reviews) doesn’t really aid him to win over fans right now.

Ben Affleck has decided to hand over the helm as the “The Stand” director to Scott Cooper, after having been attached to the Stephen King adaptation since 2011. He will need all his time to prepare for his new role as Batman, no pressure!
