Arnold Schwarzenegger was kind enough to announce the new “dyslexic” ‘Terminator 5’ title via an Instagram photo after they wrapped up production this week. The 67-year-old actor is featured sitting on a black director’s chair which has the title emblazoned on it. Previously referred to as “Terminator: Genesis”, the fifth installment will officially be known as “Terminator Genisys“……the misspell is intended by the way!?

Schwarzenegger captioned the pic:

“Hasta la vista, baby. I want to thank the cast and crew of @TerminatorGenisys for a fantastic shoot. It was challenging, it was fun, and it was rewarding,”

So, why the alternate spelling of the subtitle one might ask? The guys over at Screenrant speculated a bit and this is what they came up with:

The new high-tech manufacturing corporation angle

“It could be that “Genisys” refers to the name of a new high-tech manufacturing corporation (a la Cyberdyne Systems in the previous films). Dayo Okeniyi (The Spectacular Now) is costarring in the new Terminator film as Danny Dyson, son of Miles (portrayed by Joe Morton in T2: Judgement Day) – a programmer and Steve Jobs type genius, according to previous reports. Could “Genisys” be the new company that he’s founded – one that gives rise to Judgement Day in the rebooted Terminator continuity?”

The alternate version of Skynet angle

“Genisys” could also refer to an alternate version of Skynet, which shall be introduced in this new movie. It’s heavily rumored that the Terminator: Genisys script – by Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) – pulls some Back to the Future inspired time-travel trickery, so that events in the film’s past setting play out in a different fashion than they did in the original Terminator. This could give rise to re-imagined versions of both the present and future in the Terminator universe – one where there’s a Skynet-like AI entity known as “Genisys”, or maybe a Judgement Day-esque event referred to as “Genisys”.

Schwarzenegger mentioned once that the new ”Terminator deals a lot with time travel, so there will be a younger T-800 and then what that model does later on when it gets reprogrammed, and who gets a hold of him. So it will be all kinds of interesting twists in the movie.” Maybe the new title represents another tease about the plot as mentioned. The time travelling aspect of the film seems to be a huge game changer and perhaps a new title is also agreeable with some major aspect of the new planned trilogy? Plot details for the fifth and future instalment are kept under wraps by the studio. For now we will have to sit it back and wait to see what they have planned and why the “silly” title has been introduced.

“Terminator Genisys” is directed by Alan Taylor and also starring Emilia Clarke. Schwarzenegger also mentioned that ‘Genesis’ will have the Same Feel as ‘Terminator 2′, the second installment in the blockbuster franchise starring Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and Edward Furlong as John Connor.

The fifth installment will be released on July 1, 2015.
