Screenwriter Simon Kinberg confirmed that “X-Men” movie geeks can expect familiar faces to make an appearance in the follow-up to “X-Men: Days of Future Past“. It was previously revealed that “X-Men: Apocalypsewould be more of a ‘First Class’ sequel which is once again confirmed by Kinberg in a recent interview with Kinberg is also attached as producer for the upcoming “Days of Future Past” sequel, he says the upcoming movie “will focus primarily on the ‘First Class’ cast” with some of the original cast members returning to join the action.

Regarding Gambit’s future starring Channing Tatum, the helmer said:

“Gambit is still in-motion and being figured out. Channing made it known that it was a character that he loved and would love to play, and all the people who work on the X-Men movies are huge fans of his, so the notion of him playing it is exciting. I’m more fascinated by anti-heroes, and Gambit is one of those. I don’t know why he wasn’t explored in the original X-Men movies. Maybe the reason why was because they wanted to focus on Rogue/Bobby or the platonic Rogue/Wolverine relationship, and maybe there were too many similarities between Wolverine and Gambit, so in order to make it a Wolverine-centric franchise they had to cut him loose.”

This may also raise hopes of seeing James McAvoy (Professor X) and Michael Fassbender’s (Magneto) return. This really opens up the playing field for so much more in term of the stroryline which is set to take place in the 1980’s.

“Apocalypse” is set to be released on May 27, 2016.
