The casting ensemble for “X-Men: Apocalypse” is coming along nicely with many reports flooding the internet with official casting news. Director Brian Singer dropped some major news via Twitter this week, confirming the casting selections for the younger versions of Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm. They will be replacing previous “X-Men” stars Famke Janssen, James Marsden, and Halle Berry respectively.
Chloe Moretz, Elle Fanning and Hailee Steinfeld were among the young talent eyed for Grey, but Sophie Turner, aka Sansa Stark from “Game of Thrones” managed to nab the coveted role. Aaliyah bio-pic star Alexandra Shipp will take on the role as Storm, and “Mud” co-star Tye Sheridan will portray Cyclops. Ben Hardy, Charlie Rowe and Timothee Chalamet were among the male actors considered for the beam blasting superhero.
“Welcome to the Mutant family: @SophieT (Jean Grey), @AlexShipppp (Storm) and @TyeSheridan (Cyclops). #XMenApocalypse”
This is an excellent time for Turner to take a good swing at a coveted role considering her recent successes with HBO’s wildly popular “Game of Thrones”. Shipp is most notable for her role as KT Rush on the show “House of Anubis”, and is probably the only wildcard so far. Sheridan is fairly unknown but he well decorated with his solid performances in “Joe” and “Mud”, he is an interesting choice to play Cyclops but we have a feeling he will be perfect for the part.
The youngsters are also joined by Guatemalan-born American actor Oscar Isaac, best known for his lead role in 2013’s “Inside Llewyn Davis”. He has officially been cast as the titular villain in the upcoming “X-Men” movie set to take place in the 80’s. We mentioned a bit earlier this week that Patrick Stewart And Ian McKellen Will Not Be In X-Men: Apocalypse as Professor Xavier and Magneto.
“X-Men: Apocalypse” is set to be released on May 27, 2016.
