Imagine him with no hair? Jesse Eisenberg is Lex Luthor

Imagine him with no hair? Jesse Eisenberg is Lex Luthor

We have big casting news for the upcoming ‘Batman vs. Superman’ movie, and that is none other than the nemesis of Superman himself, Lex Luthor. Ladies and gentleman, your Lex Luthor, the most notorious of Superman’s enemies will be played by Jesse Eisenberg. We had rumors of Bryan Cranston, Terry O’Quinn and even Joaquin Phoenix being the bald nemesis. Variety were the first to report on the ‘surprise’ casting.

Eisenberg is best known for portraying Facebook co-creator Mark Zuckerberg in “The Social Network,” for which he received an Oscar nomination. The casting is seen as a surprise due to Eisenberg’s age. We know we have an “older” Batman in Ben Affleck, and Henry Cavill does seem older when we compared with Eisenberg. Will the casting of a young Lex Luthor work? Word on the interwebs are that Eisenberg’s age may be a problem, but has shown that he can definitely be an arrogant genius. Lex Luthor is known for playing mind games with Superman and can stand toe to toe with him because of his intellect. Going back to The Social Network, Jesse Eisenber proves to be fully capable of portraying an evil genius while captivating audiences.

“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940,” Snyder said previously. “What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

Looking at the poll currently on Variety,  are not in favor of the choice, while  agrees with it. Are we seeing another Ben Affleck back-lash?

Jeremy Irons cast as Alfred

Jeremy Irons cast as Alfred

Also part of the casting announcement was another surprise, Jeremy Irons will portray Alfred. Another casting we’re not too sure about. Does Jeremy Irons fit the role as Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend?

“As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure,” the director continued. “He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne.”

We’ll keep you posted on the reaction to the casting news. Superman-Batman is in pre-production with Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman. “Man of Steel” director Zack Snyder is helming. The Superman-Batman pic will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane, and Gal Gadot is our Wonder Woman. Expected to hit theaters in May 6, 2016.
