We called it, Wearable Tech is one of the main buzzwords at CES 2014. With everyone and anyone jumping on the band-wagon, Pebble seems ready to face the wave. Pebble just announced an all-metal Pebble Steel watch coming January 28, with an official app store, at long last.
With the release of the Pebble Steel, or Pebble 2, now perhaps is a good time to buy a SmartWatch. Check-out our guide on whether or not you should buy a SmartWatch: Should I buy a SmartWatch?
The new Pebble Steel comes in two flavours, a brushed stainless steel model and a matte black steel model. Both stick much more to the design DNA of a classic watch than the retro, toy-like Pebble with a complete overhaul of the smartwatch’s build. We have a feeling the more ‘mature’ look will be a hit with older people. Perhaps Pebble is trying to expand on their market? You can change the straps if you want to, yes please!
While the internals remain the same, the e-paper screen has been slathered in scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass and a choice of metal and leather straps will also be available. There’s also an addditional RGB LED in the bottom left that indicates charging status. It costs $100 more than the original now ‘entry-level’ Pebble. The $249 price places the Pebble Steel much closer to the prices of watches like the Galaxy Gear.
