kellan-lutz-hercules05 Hercules Chariot Dwayne Johnson

If you’ve been following us here on GeekShizzle, or if you are a fan of either Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson or Kellan Lutz then you will know that there’s two Hercules movies coming our way next year July/August. We can’t help but feel that one of them will tank completely. Who would want to go see two Hercules movies in the space of a couple of months? This all depends on the release date for Kellan Lutz’ Hercules: the Legend Begins. Some sources show an 8th August 2014 release date and others a much earlier March 2014 release.

We decided to throw both movies into the battle arena and pit them up against each other below. Our prediction on which one will come out on top.

Release date:

Whichever movie hits the big screen first will have an advantage here. If Kellan Lutz’ Hercules: The Legend Begins starts in March, before Dwayne Johnsons Hercules: The Tracian Wars then Hercules: The Legend Begins may just do a bot better than expected.

Dwayne Johnsons Hercules: The Tracian Wars will première first, on the 25th of July 2014.  Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will première a week before Hercules: The Tracian wars, other than that there’s no real competition regarding release weekend.

Kellan Lutz’ Hercules: The Legend Begins starts on the 8th of August (if this release date is accurate) then it will pit against the release of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and  ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ on August the 1st, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ‘ on the 8th, and ‘The Expendables 3’ on the 15th. This release date sounds like a really bad choice for Hercules: The Legend Begins.

  • +1 for Hercules: The Tracian Wars

Plot:

Hercules: The Legend Begins tells the origin story of the Greek hero, and there’s also some love and war in the mix. The trailer which was released a few days ago, pretty much lays out everything that you’ll see in the movie, shows Hercules being shipped off to Egypt and away from the love of his life. The movie stars Gaia Weiss as Hercules’ love interest Hebe and the supporting cast includes Liam McIntyre (Spartacus), Scott Adkins (The Expendables 2) and Roxanne McKee.

Hercules: The Tracian Wars  begins after the labors of ercules, and after the legend… Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercues.

Actors:

Kellan Lutz as Hercules vs Dwayne Johnson as Hercules. Dwayne Johnson has proven himself to be a very successful actor. Not only is he the most successful WWE wrestler turned actor, but he is known for rescuing franchises on the edge of dying (Fast Five, The Mummy Returns, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation). Here’s 7 great movies we can expect to see him in next.

Kellan Lutz has the Twilight series behind his name, as well as his role in the upcoming Expendables 3.

+1 Hercules: The Tracian Wars

Directors:

Brett Ratner (Hercules: The Tracian Wars) up against Renny Harlin (Hercules: The Legend Begins). Brett Ratner gave us X-Men: The Last Stand, Red Dragon and the more recent Movie 43. While Renny Harlin has Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger behind his name. Unfortunately neither of them are on our list of favourite Directors. We will have to wait and see how each of them interpret the Greek Warrior.

What We’ve Seen:

We have the full trailer, as well as the earlier teaser trailer  for Hercules: The Legend Begins and only a few leaked Dwayne Johnson Instagram images for Hercules: The Tracian Wars.

Here’s the trailer for Hercules: The Legend Begins:

Dwayne Johnson has been giving us a glimpses of his movie by sharing certain on-set images. These are the ones we have. Most recently he shared this one, his chariot:

"Honored to have these magnificent Friesians leading my chariot into battle daily." - Dwayne Johnson

“Honored to have these magnificent Friesians leading my chariot into battle daily.” – Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Jonhsons Hercules will blow Kellan Lutz out of the water, or so we believe. Hercules: The Tracian Wars has nothing to fear if the release date for Hercules: The Legend Begins is in March.
