Tim Cook left it until the end of the Apple event at Flint Centre. The event was primarily iPhone 6 focused. Tim started the announcement by noting that Apple brought us the Mouse, the Click Wheel and Multi touch with the Macintosh, iPod and iPhone.
Without further a due, Tim gives us the iWatch:
- Apple Watch has a flexible Retina display. It’s laminated to a single crystal of sapphire, the hardest transparent material after diamond.
- The Digital Crown / tuen Wheel lets you navigate Apple Watch fluidly and precisely. Magnify content, scroll through lists and messages, and make selections. All without obstructing the screen.
- The display of the watch is also pressure sensitive and there’s a special vibrator and speaker inside that gives you haptic feedback. It’s called the Taptic Engine.
- There are two sizes of Apple Watch, larger and smaller for bigger and smaller wrists.
- There’s a leather strap as well that has a sporty feel. There’s a leather ‘modern’ buckle that has a softer feel. There’s a simple leather silver buckle and a stainless steel band as well. There’s also a chain loop that’s infinitely adjustable.
- Apple’s iWatch map integration will give you subtle vibration signals that tell you to go ‘left’ or ‘right’ so you don’t have to look at you wrist to know which way to go.
- They’re putting Siri on the new Apple Watch so finally you can feel like a secret agent talking into your sleeve.
With Apple Watch, you can share something as personal as the beating of your heart. Press two fingers on the screen to capture and send your heartbeat.
- The Apple Watch will suggest messages to reply to those who send you iMessages with by analyzing the text. You’ve got emoji you can reply to people with.
- There are interactive emoji that you can use to change the expressions of, which is crazy.
The Apple Watch starts at $349. There is inductive charging but no word on battery life. One comment from Cook early on that said ‘all day’. Availability is early 2015.
