X-Men: Apocalypse” director Bryan Singer was kind enough to give us a quick glimpse at what to expect for the opening sequence of the upcoming “X-Men: Days of Future Past” sequel. The helmer leaked a small part of the script written by him, Simon Kinberg, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris. Taking to Instagram, Singer took a snapshot of the script which reveals that a “sprawling battle” involving the Four Horsemen is expected. Although not confirmed, we have to assume that the script is based on, or has taken inspiration from the comics’ “Age of Apocalypse”.

The four horsemen have changed in comics over the years. The storyline follows Apocalypse as he handpicks four mutants or superheroes, acting as his henchmen who are sometimes referred to as The Four Horsemen of Apocalypse. The unlucky four were volunteers or even brainwashed to follow the cause of the Horsemen. Named after the biblical Horsemen from The last book of the New Testament of the Bible; Death, War, Famine, and Pestilence are enhanced super soldiers. The Book of Revelation of Jesus Christ to Saint John the Evangelist makes reverence to The Four Horsemen of Apocalypse, who are to set a divine apocalypse upon the world as harbingers of the Last Judgment. Damn, we need to wait another 2 years for the next “X-Men” installment! I have a feeling we are in for many more surprises till “Apocalypse” wreaks havoc in theatres set for 2016.

Marvel’s official description for Horsemen Of Apocalypse

“The Horsemen of Apocalypse are mutants who either willingly volunteer or are abducted and manipulated into the service of Apocalypse. They take their names from the biblical Horsemen Death, War, Famine, and Pestilence. They are almost always genetically modified by Apocalypse in order to enhance their abilities, or even grant them additional abilities. One such example was Archangel, who after losing his wings, was taken in by Apocalypse, who granted him metallic wings, with feathers that could be used as projectiles.”

X-Men: Apocalypse” is set 10 years after “X-Men: Days of Future Past“,  but will “deal with the notion of ancient mutants” according to previous reports. We can also prepare ourselves for an “X-Men” flick that is “more of ‘First Class’ sequel” featuring some of the original cast.

Promising to have “more mass destruction” than any “X-Men” film to date, “Apocalypse” is set to be released on May 27, 2016. Kinberg also confirmed that “X-Men” movie geeks can expect familiar faces to make an appearance in the follow-up to “X-Men: Days of Future Past“.
