“How I Met Your Mother” might have a spin-off show according to a recent report by Variety.com. The proposed spin-off is currently called “How I Met Your Father” which will follow the same narrative style like “HIMYM”. It will feature a new group of New York friends (similar to “HIMYM”) and it will tell the story of a female member of the group as she finds her future husband.

Ted, Barney, Marshall, Lily and Robin’s favourite pub, MacLaren’s, may be featured on the potential new show. The new characters will most likely be introduced in the “HIMYM” series finale if the studio decides to continue with the spin-off. The network is discussing the potential spin-off with series creators/executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas as well as “Up All Night” creator/executive producer Emily Spivey.

“HIMYM” quickly became one of the most talked about comedy sitcoms ever made since its debut on CBS on September 19, 2005. The show has been nominated for 28 Emmy Awards, winning nine. I am not sure how CBS will manage to stage a spin-off from one of the most iconic comedy sitcoms to hit television. This sounds like a version of something that worked before and maybe they can milk the cow dry until it tips over. “HIMYM” always managed to find ways to surprise us because the concept was fresh and original, even thought the last few seasons felt a bit stretched we still appreciated the camaraderie and silly comic relief. Let’s hope the memory of MacLaren’s will not be tarnished by a group of wannabes trying to rekindle a flame of a beloved an original show. Would you like to see a spin-off?
