“Bourne” fans prematurely celebrated reports that Matt Damon will take part in the fifth installment of the “Bourne” film series developed at Universal Pictures.”The Bourne Legacy” did not see Damon as the lead character because director Paul Greengrass was not invited back to serve behind the lens. Reports claim that Damon will not reconsider taking part in the “Bourne” Series unless Paul Greengrass is at the helm.

Twitchfilm.com reported earlier today that the original star and previous director Greengrass is in negotiations to rejoin the franchise, Variety.com denied the rumors via a sources close with the studio.

The source said:

“there is nothing going on between the studio and Damon and Greengrass.”

Damon spoke to Movieline in an interview back in October 2012, addressing sequel rumors  for “The Bourne Ultimatum” and confirming to pursue interests only if Greengrass is involved:

“I’ve always been open to it as long as Paul Greengrass directs, I don’t think he’s going to do it.”

This makes things a little easier amidst the disappointing news. Jeremy Renner and scribe Anthony Peckham is confirmed for the upcoming instalment and Renner will reprise his role as the CIA agent Aaron Cross.
