The fifth “Bourne”  installment ” is officially under development at Universal Pictures. Jeremy Renner will be back to reprise his role as Aaron Cross. The studio expects Matt Damon to reprise his role as Jason Bourne, original lead from the series. Damon is not signed on yet due to the Elysium actor’s decision to depart from the series. His return probably depends on who the studio hires to helm the project moving forward.

Producer Frank Marshall revealed in an interview with empireonline.com last year, he wants Matt and Jeremy to team up:

“You see there are several different programmes in the movie with different skill sets. All possibilities are open. My dream is that in the next one we see Matt and Jeremy team up.”

Movieline interviewed Damon back in October 2012, he talked about rumoured involvement in the sequel “The Bourne Ultimatum”:

“I’ve always been open to it as long as Paul Greengrass directs, I don’t think he’s going to do it.”

Writer and Director of “The Bourne Legacy” Tony Gilroy, is seemingly not invited back to the project. Instead, the studio hired “Sherlock Holmes” scribe Anthony Peckham to pen the script.

It is unclear if Renner’s co-stars Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton will be back in the follow-up.

Unfortunately we have not guarantees that Damon will return to the Bourne series, it will be epic to see the two actors working together.
