That new crossguard lightsaber proved controversial among Star Wars fans when it first appeared in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser in November.Little did we know that Apple’s senior vice president of design, Jony Ive, may have helped inspire its strange new look. you read right geeks, Apple designed the new Crossguard lightsaber.
In a wide-ranging New Yorker profile of the famed Apple designer, J.J. Abrams, the director of the next Star Wars installment, said that Ive gave “very specific” suggestions about lightsaber design. Unfortunately, that’s as specific as Abrams got, though he added that the lightsabers in The Force Awakens would “reflect those thoughts.”
This is of course a bit of an assumption, but what else could Jony have recommended if the rest of the lightsaber looks exactly the same.
Let’s hop it doesn’t bend?
