The last time we checked in on the “Beetlejuice 2” developments Michael Keaton discussed the sequel for the cult classic movie with director Tim Burton via e-mail and talked to writer Seth Grahame-Smith. We even got our hopes up with rumors suggesting that Winona Ryder might be returning for the anticipated followed-up to the 1988 classic. Well, it’s been 10 months and not a peep until the friendly folks over at ComingSoon.net tracked down the director to speak to him about his upcoming flick “Big Eyes”. They asked him for some updates on the long-gestating sequel to “Beetlejuice”. This is what he had to say:

“It’s a character that I love and I miss and I miss actually working with Michael. There’s only one Betelgeuse. We’re working on a script and I think it’s probably closer than ever and I’d love to work with him again,”

Hell yeah!  As much as Keaton wasn’t the right actor to portray Batman, we can’t imagine a better fit to play the crazy supernatural freak Betelgeuse. Seeing Keaton back in full makeup and acting out as the bewildered, obnoxious and perverted ghost will be an absolute treat. Released over 27 years ago “Beetlejuice” featured at the top of the box office charts and raked in over $73,7 domestically.
