Dredd 3D” star Karl Urban has been teasing fans with the possibility of a sequel while visiting the Motor City Comic Con earlier this year. The actor recently revealed at the Chicago Comic Con that a second film will be set as a prequel, not a sequel if the studios consider a follow-up.

He said at the event when asked if “there [is] a possibility of maybe getting to see the dark judges in Dredd 2 or beyond?”

“Why yes, there is a definite possibility. But, it is more likely that we will do the origins story with Dredd trekking through the cursed earth to find the first Chief Judge Fargo.”

The remake of the 1995 movie starring Sylvester Stallone performed poorly at the box office despite excellent reviews. Made on a budget of $50 million, the film grossed just $35.6 million worldwide. The film did however claim the number one spot on the DVD sell-through and Blu-ray charts with 650,000 units sold, making it the best-selling new release title of 2012. Urban is even prepared to fund the sequel if he had the finances but urged fans to start a Kickstarter campaign.

We would love to see a “Dredd” sequel, any geeks out there that share the sentiment?
