The “Justice League” league movie might include the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch as the Martian Manhunter according to latest rumors making the rounds on the internet. The English actor said he is comfortable “to let that rumour run” while on the red carpet of GQ Men of the Year awards. Just last week Moviepilot ran with a report speculating names that could be the top selections for  “The Justice League” team and Cumberbatch was mentioned as the man for the job to take on the role of Martian Manhunter. The site’s Mac Charalambous said the following:

“To be perfectly honest, I was skeptical about this at first too. I didn’t really know who I would want to play this character, and my original choice was Idris Elba, but I didn’t want to have anyone listed twice. I had to find someone that could, not only, play an alien, but a detective as well. Cumberbatch can play an amazing detective, as seen by his Emmy award-winning performance as Sherlock Holmes. He also has to feel a bit alien in nature, which he also embodies as Sherlock with his otherworldly presence and intellect. To top it all off, he has one of the most intriguing voices in the industry. This is a superb actor who can be believable as a Martian, but also bend in as a human.”

We can’t agree more! This is something to be excited about because Cumberbatch is one of the hottest actors to consider for any huge upcoming project. Trekkies are still moping around with heads buried in the sand while Roberto Orci is hard at work to restore the faith in the once beloved franchise. Remember when Trekkie fans voted “Into Darkness” as the worst film in decades? Irrespective where geeks ended up on the virtual fence of ridicule, there is no denying Cumberbatch’s Khan as one of the most bad ass characters in the franchise. He was also recently linked to Marvel’s “Dr. Strange” but later denied the reports.

Warner Bros president of worldwide production, Greg Silverman announced back in April that the “Justice League” movie featuring multiple superheroes will be helmed by Zack Snyder. DC’s “Justice League” currently has no official release date, but Latino-Review reports the pic will arrive on May 5, 2017.

Cumberbatch was presented with the best actor award at the GQ event by fellow actor Dan Stevens.

Courtesy of dc.wikia.com, let’s have a closer look at Martian Manhunter:

“Martian Manhunter, also known as J’onn J’onzz and John Jones, is a superhero from the planet Mars and the last surviving member of his race. A martian holocaust killed his wife and daughter, nearly driving him mad, until he was brought to Earth in an accident caused by scientist Saul Erdel. His natural abilities include super-strength, super-speed, invulnerability, flight, shape-shifting, intangibility and telepathy. He has been a member of almost every incarnation of the Justice League of America. Although he holds great reverence for his homeworld, he has come to greatly respect his adopted world as well and protects it as his home. In his secret identity, to blend into humanity, he is a gritty hard-boiled police officer. Martian Manhunter was created by Joseph Samachson and Joe Certa, first appearing in Detective Comics #225. (1955)”
