Multiple award-winning film and video producer Jim Standridge release a clip of Katy Perry’s first tour as an artist back in 2001. The video clip features scenes of the mega star spending time with fans and performing live while playing guitar at a small venue in Portland Oregon. The glimpse of her life at the time seems like the humble beginning fit for someone who only started a career in the entertainment business. The rare footage shows fans a different side to the colourful “Dark Horse” singer when she was still known as Katy Hudson.
She initially pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager, but changed her focus to the pop scene when she moved to Los Angeles the following year. Her real names are Katheryn Elizabeth “Katy” Hudson, but since her rise to fame she is better known by her stage name, Katy Perry. She had a major breakthrough in 2008 with the release of the single “I Kissed a Girl” from her second album, “One of the Boys”. Seeing Perry as a 17-year-old struggling to make a name for herself, really puts things in perspective and also humbles us with a new-found respect for her
Standridge said the following about the clip:
“The other day I was cleaning out some old footage in my office and found 90 minutes of raw footage I had totally forgot about. Pamplin had the originals but I had always made backups of everything I shot. I quickly put together a short edit of the experience with Katy. Funny how she spent so much time messing with her hair…. In the present day her hair changes color and style in every photo shoot, music video and performance…I think Katy has grown into an amazing entertainer and woman. Enjoy.”
