Damien Thorn will be making his return as the Antichrist in Lifetime’s “Damien“. The Oscar-winning 1976 motion picture was the fifth highest grossing movie of 1976, not to mention one of the genres best horror films ever made. This has the potential of being one of the most anticipated horror TV shows depending on the production value. Lifetime will produce six-episodes straight to series from former “The Walking Dead” showrunner Glen Mazzara. Excited yet?

Courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, check out what’s in store for the small screen adaptation:

“The series follows the adult life of Damien Thorn, the mysterious child from the 1976 film, who has grown up, seemingly unaware of the satanic forces around him. Haunted by his past, Damien must now come to terms with his true destiny — that he is the Antichrist, the most feared man throughout the ages.”

Lifetime exec vp and GM Rob Sharenow says:

“We are thrilled to be bringing a contemporary version of The Omen’s Damien Thorn back to the screen,”

“Glen Mazzara has re-imagined him as a dark, romantic, anti-hero and this fresh take blends complex characters with premium storytelling to make something truly original.”

Mazzara and Ross Fineman will be teaming up to developed and executive produce “Damien”. The duo will be joined by Pancho Mansfield as executive producer. “Damien” is expected to launch in early 2015.

The original movie was made famous by a controversial hanging scene and a cutting edge (at the time) decapitation scene. Starring Gregory Peck and Lee Remick as the parents who adopt an orphan (Damien, played by Harvey Spencer Stephens) who turns out to be the Antichrist.
