Warlords-of-Draenor-Wallpaper

I finally decided to give in. For too long have I avoided the temptation of joining the World of Warcraft (WoW) community. I decided to submerse myself of the world of warcraft. Not playing Wow has always been a deliberate decision, and while I very much played just about every other Blizzard game stayed away from Wow.

Why you may ask? Well, I knew it would consume me. It would completely and utterly make me an addict and I would not have a life apart from the one my Warrior has in Azeroth. But, I have simply seen too many awesome Blizzard Wow cinematics to go on avoiding Wow. After seeing the latest cinematic for Warlords of Draenor, I decided to take the plunge, pay my monthly subscription fee and dive right in.

So, where does one begin? Here’s is a few steps I’ve taken up to know, and although I am only sitting on a level 13 warrior. These series of posts will be my journey into Wow, even if it is 10 years late.

One simply does not begin to play Wow, especially if you want to enjoy the full experience and understand all the lore and history. This is my journey into Wow:

Step 1 – Catch up on the original lore

The first thing you want to do is catch up on the history, the lore and where matters stand before playing World of Warcraft 1. It is a delicate journey though, careful not to see any spoilers on how some of the expansions end.

Welcome to World of Warcraft, launched in 2004. The lore in World of Warcraft is enough to give even J.R.R. Tolkien (if still lived) a headache. It is extremely rich and complex, and trying to understand everything will depend purely on how much time you have to research and read about it.

This video though helped me a lot, as it gave me a great overview on where things begin in 2004 with the official first World of Warcraft game:

 Step 2 – Start Playing

I fit in quite naturally seeing as I am an avid Diablo 3 player. I am already familiar with the classes, races, levelling, gear, characteristics and guilds. But, the crappy part of only starting now is that I have to battle through the 2004 graphics. Playing WoW now looks like minecraft. Luckily, it will get better as the game progresses.

The best advice I’ve received here is to simply knuckle down and struggle through. I’ve only done single player quests thus far. I decided to join a guild and start raids when I reach level 20.

I hope you enjoyed this part 1 of “My world of warcraft journey begins 10 years late”. I’ll be posting updates. Here’s Part 2.
