Legendary Pictures is wasting no time by setting plans in motion for “Godzilla 2” to be released. The studio stunned fans at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con with the announcement that “Godzilla 2” is set to invade cities once more. Even though it was said that “Godzilla” director Gareth Edwards is expected to return behind the lens for the second installment, no confirmation was received until recently. Fans of the giant kaiju city destroyer will be pleased to know that the second installment is slated to be released on June 8, 2018, with Edwards attached to direct.  His return to helm the second installment shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the film received largely positive reviews from review aggregator Rottentomatoes.com. The movie also raked in $93.2 million in its opening weekend, and ended up with over $500 million at the worldwide box office in total.

Edwards will return behind the lens for the sequel after he completes the “Star Wars” standalone film that was announced recently.
