Marvel took over the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 26 with thousands of fans making the trip to see what is in store for their favorite superheroes. The studio shared some new footage for its hotly anticipated “Avengers: Age of Ultron“.
The “Avengers: Age of Ultron” panel featured a star-studded ensemble which included the likes of Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Aaron Johnson (Quicksilver), Paul Bettany (The Vision), James Spader (voice of Ultron), and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch). All of the cast members making up The Avengers team was present except for Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson who is expecting her first child.
Before the Con started this weekend, Ruffalo spoke to Collider saying that the cast was flying to San Diego to take a brief break from principal photography in London:
“Yeah, we’re gonna go out there. We’re all flying, we’re flying from London. We’re working. We’re shooting. We’re gonna stop and get on a plane and go to Comic Con together. It’s gonna be amazing.”
Backstage, after the event took place this past weekend, Ruffalo said:
“[director]Joss really gets these big, big, big ideas,”
“There is a discussion that’s coming up about artificial intelligence and the ethics of artificial intelligence I think that’s dealt with in the movie. We’re kind of on the threshold of that – the movie Her – all of this technology is just about ready to hit the world. But he’s also talking about our ability to destroy the world. And it’s a real thing. We’re there.”
At the event, Ulton depicter James Spader said jokingly:
“I play an 8-foot robot in this movie,”
“I’ve always played humans up until this point.”
Even though Johansson couldn’t join the rest of the cast, she received the honours to introduce the newly released footage for the upcoming film in the video clip. In the trailer, we get to see Spader’s villainous Ultron taking on a few different forms. Talk about artificial intelligence with the “ability to destroy the world”, Ultron is way up there!
We reported yesterday that Captain America’s Shield is cracked due to a skirmish with Ultron. The events that took place that damaged Cap’s shield was unveiled in the clip. The Avengers gathered at Tony Stark tower to try and pick up Thor’s hammer in a scene meant for light-hearted fun. They were interrupted by Ulton showing up unexpectedly with the final scene of the clip showing the Avengers unconscious, or possibly dead. The action-packed teaser also including Hulk battling a giant robot resembling Iron Man which was teased in the concept art released a bit earlier this year. Thor is also featured grabbing Stark by the throat, is he getting on everyone’s nerves again?
