Marvel’s “Ant-Man” team spent some time to reflect and enjoy the fandom at this year San Diego Comic-Con, after their production went through a bit of a rough patch. The “Ant-Man” panel was attended by Michael Douglas, Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Corey Stoll. The main cast used every opportunity to reassure fans that the movie will continue where previous director and scribe Edgar Wright left off. Rudd said in an interview after the panel that Wright’s departure was “a bit intense” for the cast.

He added:

“It undoubtedly hit some speed bumps,”

“I’m just thrilled that we’re at where we’re at now. … And I know it will continue to evolve.”

Lilly also praised Wright for his efforts:

“[Wright] had been the guy to really rope us in. And his vision and his excitement and his passion and his ability as a filmmaker was part of the appeal, originally.”

The cast still wants to honour his vision, she said.

“He really constructed the foundation and the backbone of what we are going to work from,”

“And we just want to do right by him and make him proud.”

Attending Comic-Con for the first time, both Douglas and Rudd seemed please to be part of the event.

Rudd joked:

“I’m popping my Comic-Con cherry,”

Douglas replied quickly saying:

“I’ve popped enough cherries.”

Even though the storyline is tightly under wraps, Douglas shared some tasty bits about the plot:

“This is a story of a heist, and my partner played by Corey Stoll is taking the company in a different direction.”

Stoll added:

“Some judgmental people says it’s an evil direction.”

Let’s check out which roles have been unveiled:

  • Evangeline Lilly: Geeks following our blog will remember that Lilly was rumored to take on the role as Hank Pym’s daughter. It has finally been confirmed that she will play Hope Pym.

  • Corey Stoll: Another mystery is solved with the announcement that Stoll will take on the role as Darren Cross a.k.a. Yellowjacket. This break away from the traditional story in the comic books. Dr.Hank Pym (a.k.a. Ant-Man) accidentally dropped and smashed some vials containing various unknown gases that wreaked a radical temporary personality change in him. He took the new identity of Yellowjacket, claimed that he had murdered Henry Pym, kidnapped, his love interest.

  • Michael Douglas (previously confirmed): Douglas will take on the role as the inventor of Ant-Man’s shrinking particles and equipment, Dr. Hank Pym.

  • Paul Rudd (previously confirmed): Rudd will take on the role as Scott Lang a.k.a Ant-Man, who in the comic book steals Pym’s equipment.

Fans also got to see some new footage, featuring Scott Lang riding a flying insect that Hank Pym, via voice-over, is instructing him to control. Newly hired “Ant-Man” helmer Peyton Reed is quite impressed with Rudd’s physique:

“Paul is in great shape that the Ant-Man Henry-Pym-Ant-Man-Mighty-Avengers-5-Marvel-Comicsbody suit, we had to soften up,”

“We’re actually using CGI to remove muscles.”
