‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ is set to be released in October on FX

Before we get into the details, let have a quick recap of what we know so far. Even though the storyline is kept under wraps, we know that the “carnival” themed fourth season will be set in the 1950’s with Jessica Lange taking the lead in her fourth and final season. Paulson will be “duplicated” using a mix of practical physical effects make-up and CGI, to bring to live her character with two heads! She will take on the roles of Dot and Bettie, conjoined twins joining the freak show. Michael Chiklis will play a strong man who was married to Bassett’s character, and Lange will be playing a German ex-pat who is managing one of the last freak shows in the U.S.

Let’s have a look at the characters and their relationships:

  • Michael Chiklis – Wendell Del Toredo, a strongman who is now married to Bassett’s Desiree Dupree (the husband of Ethel and ex-husband of Desiree)

  • Kathy Bates – Ethel Darling who is Wendell’s ex-wife

  • Evan Peters – Jimmy Darling, Ethel’s son

  • Sarah Paulson – Bette and Dot Tattler (conjoined twins)

  • Jessica Lange – Head proprietor of the freak show named Elsa Mars

  • Emma Roberts – Maggie (no last name as of yet)

  • Angela Bassett – Desiree Dupree

Entertainment Weekly also reports that fans of the show can expect John Carroll Lynch to take on a villainous role in the upcoming season. Lynch is no strangers to freak shows, he previously had a recurring role in the HBO show “Carnivàle”, playing escaped convict Varlyn Stroud. The site refered to Lynch as “the great everyguy-psychopath character actor”.

The added:

“One of Lynch’s best-known performances came as the possible serial killer Arthur Leigh Allen in Zodiac; appropriately, executive producer Tim Minear described the tone of Freak Show as “Douglas Sirk meets Zodiac.”

Lynch teased that the fourth season villain would “scare the s**t out of you.”

Kathy Bates says she had trouble sleeping after her first scene last week:

“After my first scene last week — and this is a terrible confession to make — I couldn’t sleep until six in the morning, and then I slept for 30 hours,”

“And that was without drugs, I swear to God. I think [Ryan Murphy] scares the s–t out of me.”

Minear revealed that we are in for a very entertaining ride, he said:

“I can tell you this, which is not much: It’s the best season so far,”

“It’s not like the first three seasons.”

Freak Show’s 13 episodes will track this group as they do anything to keep their business around. Any horror geeks out there getting excited for the new season?
