We get to see Channing Tatum take on a serious role in Sony’s “Foxcatcher” which released a new trailer for our viewing pleasure. We have been excited to see this movie ever since Entertainment Weekly released the first image of Steve Carell sporting a prosthetic nose and grey hair. Carell takes on the role as John du Pont, a paranoid schizophrenic millionaire sponsor for USA Wrestling, who befriended Olympic Wrestling Champion brothers Mark (Tatum Channing) and David Schultz (Mark Ruffalo). The true story follows the Schultz’s brothers and their relationship with John du Pont that eventually leads them to betrayal and murder.

This is the first time we get to see Carell and Tatum step up their game and deliver something exceptional. Carell’s transformation and chilling performance might be enough to open doors for additional coveted roles as a drama actor. Tatum can be seen in the latest trailer channelling his inner dark side as he punches himself in the face and headbuts a mirror multiple times. The film was originally set to be released in December last year, but was later moved to November 14, 2014. Director Bennett Miller did however screen the film in competition for the Palme d’Or at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival in May this year. Receiving critical acclaim from critics, review aggregator Rottentomatoes.com currently gives the film a score of 88% based on 17 reviews. The clips released so far looks captivating and chilling, can’t wait to see this one!

Official synopsis for “Foxcatcher”:

“FOXCATCHER, a psychological drama directed by Academy Award® nominee Bennett Miller (MONEYBALL) and starring Golden Globe® winner Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Academy Award®nominee Mark Ruffalo, Academy Award® winner Vanessa Redgrave and Sienna Miller, will have its World Premiere on Friday, November 8 as the Opening Weekend Gala. The film was written by E. Max Frye and Academy Award® nominee Dan Futterman. FOXCATCHER tells the story of Olympic Gold Medal-winning wrestler Mark Schultz (Tatum), who sees a way out from the shadow of his more celebrated wrestling brother Dave (Ruffalo) and a life of poverty when he is summoned by eccentric multi-millionaire John du Pont (Carell) to move onto his estate and train for the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Desperate to gain the respect of his disapproving mother, du Pont begins “coaching” a world-class athletic team and, in the process, lures Mark into dangerous habits, breaks his confidence and drives him into a self-destructive spiral. Based on actual events, FOXCATCHER is a gripping and profoundly American story of fragile men who pinned their hopes for love and redemption on a desperate obsession for greatness that was to end in tragedy.”
