The last time we checked in with any progress for the sequel, del Toro revealed in an interview that the project has not received the go ahead as yet. We are still waiting for the studio to give the green light while the script is in progress. It’s a tall order to recapture the imagination of fan boys treated to multiple Monster vs. Robot fights, displayed in a fantasy setting with bright colours and CGI fit to satisfy the needs of any Kaiju enthusiast. The guys have already cornered some of the challenges and for now, they remain tight-lipped for what’s in store but they are promising something epic!

At this stage of the development process there is no budget but they are working on the script, del Toro said:

“I don’t have the money, but I’m proceeding like it is happening”

“I’m working very hard with Zak Penn”

While keeping the high expectations in mind, del Toro debunked the rumors suggesting that the second installment will be a prequel:

“We’ve been working for a few months now in secret. We found a way to twist it around.”

“Some people were wondering if we were going to do the prequel. I was never interested in doing that first wave of the invasion. I’m going for very new, very crazy ideas on the second one, which are very different from the first one – but you will really get great spectacle.”
