Maleficent” is at the top of the domestic box office on its debut weekend. The Disney pic raked in an estimated $70 million across North America, and stormed theatres internationally with $100.6 million. The live-action re-imagining of Walt Disney’s 1959 animated film “Sleeping Beauty” stars Angelina Jolie. The family friendly movie became Jolie’s best opening film ever.

Last week’s top contender “X-Men: Days of Future Past” slips down to second place adding $32,6 million in its second week. The Marvel movie is followed by Seth MacFarlane’s “A Million Ways to Die in the West”, taking only $17 million on its debut weekend. The top five is rounded up with Godzilla (2014) adding an addition $12,2 in fourth place, followed by Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore’s “Blended” with $8,4 million in fifth place. “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is still holding on in the top 10 at number seven with $3,8 million.
