News that Hugh Jackman is done with Wolverine after playing the character for over a decade should not come as a surprise. The 44-year-old “X-men” star previously hinted that Wolverine’s recasting Is inevitable, saying “Anyone who thinks they’re indispensable in this business is fooling themselves.” He also mentioned back in September last year, that he is thinking about moving on when he attended the 61st San Sebastian International Film Festiva. Jackman said that “great parts always outgrow the actors that play them. If you forget that, it’s at your own peril,”.

In a recent interview with SFX the Australian actor revealed that the next Wolverine solo film will be his last performance as the titular character.

He says:

“I don’t know yet. We’re talking it through. I still am very ambitious for the character. And tonally I feel like we corrected the ship with the last one. But I feel we can still go further, in a way. If I did another one I’m 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me,”

There is still a possibility that we will not see Jackman suiting up for the third instalment, he adds:

“I’m excited to see what we can come up with, but I haven’t signed on signed on,”

“I’m genuinely at that point where unless it’s better than the last one I’m not going to do it.”

Luckily the star of the franchise says there is still room for improvement:

“I can still see where we can improve on the last one,”

“I don’t want to get into specifics, because it just upsets people, but there are certain parts of that story where I felt we were predictable. And I don’t think you need to do that with Wolverine.”

“What’s exciting is that you can make it a more interior story, and people actually prefer that,”

“And that was good to show and convince everyone – especially everyone who greenlights the movies.”

There is no doubt that Jackman has been integral to the success of Wolverine and the X-Men franchise, can we expect a recast with “X-Men: Apocalypse”  on the horizon? Probably not!? The next question that comes to mind….who will replace one of the most iconic comic book movie actors in Hollywood history?

We can expect to see Jackman reprise his role in “Days of Future Past”, scheduled to be released on May 23. “X-Men: Apocalypse” is planned for May 27, 2016, with ‘Wolverine 3’ expected to follow.
