GeekShizzle picked up a story last week that suggested the star football player turned-space hero will be returning to the big screen. According to Film Divider, the new version will go “right back to the original Raymond comic strips and sidesteps any association with the movie, and even the serials.” It will allegedly “reclaim Flash Gordon from his current reputation in the way that Tim Burton redirected the public conception of Batman.” The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop, saying the ‘Flash Gordon’ remake is in the works with the movie rights bought by Fox. Star Trek 3″ writers, John D. Payne and Patrick McKay, are tapped to write the script for the remake. The creative duo will be teaming up with producer Jon Davis for the upcoming pic.

The site says:

“The deal is a long time coming for Davis, who spent more than a year nailing down the rights from the Hearst Corporation. “

“Fox exec Matt Reilly identified the project early and brought it into the studio; he will now oversee the project. (Reilly is a former Warner Bros. exec who worked on the Lego Movie at its inception.)”

Several attempts to reboot the iconic sci-fi pic have failed in the past, but this time round we will hopefully be getting a proper remake.
