Marvel’s explosive “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is filling cinema seats as the superhero pic takes the top spot for a second week in a row. The Russo brothers directed movie faced stiff competition from “Rio 2”, but “The Cap” pushed through for another victory. “The Winter Soldier” have also exceeded the lifetime global gross of “Captain America: The First Avenger” ($370.5 million) and 2011’s “Thor” ($449 million). The sequel now raked in $159 million in North America and $476.1 million worldwide, making it the biggest film of the year to date. “The Cap” surpasses “The Lego Movie” which took a massive $424.8M worldwide.

“The Winter Soldier” raked in an additional $41.4 million, with “Rio 2″ in second place on its debut weekend with an estimated $39 million. The family friendly film kicked off to an impressive start, beating “The Winter Soldier” overseas by adding an additional $62.3 million this weekend from 62 markets. Marvel’s “Captain America 2” adds $60.6 million from 54 territories. “Rio 2” earned $125.2 million internationally for a total global take of $164.2 million. The family animated flick is voiced by Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, and Jamie Foxx.

The top 5 is rounded up two other new releases and a previous top contender. “Oculus” and “Draft Day” made their debut over the weekend taking third and fourth position with $12 million and $9.8 million respectively. Previous top spot contender “Noah” is still holding on in the top 5 with $7.5 million.
