HBO’s “Game of Thrones” kicked off season 4 on Sunday, April 6 with a huge bang! The season opener titled “Two Swords”, drew 8.2 million series geeks checking in with two encores on the same night. This achievement officially marks the largest audience for HBO since the series finale of “The Sopranos” which posted 11.9 million viewers in 2007, and it also marks a new record for the popular series outgunning the previous season’s premiere which posted 4.4 million viewers.
The highly anticipated first episode of “Game of Thrones” season 4 crashed HBO Go on Sunday night due to heavy demand.
The network released the following statement:
“HBO Go did experience issues due to overwhelming demand around the premiere of Game of Thrones,”
Luckily the issues were solved within hours. HBO took to Twitter with the following apology:
“Thanks for your patience #GOT fans. The service is now restored.”
