Geekshizzle reported late last year that The Spider-Man cinematic universe will be expanding. We have seen some exciting developments since Jamie Foxx confirmed that filmmakers are looking into the possibility of introducing  the infamous group known as the “Sinister Six”. The spin-off for the villainous group was officially announced in December last year with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon and Drew Goddard set to collaborate on overseeing the production at the studio. Kurtzman, Orci and Solomon will also team up to write the screenplay for “Venom (2017)”, which Kurtzman will direct.

This brings us to the present with “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” confirmed as the official platform to introduce the ‘Sinister Six’ in the Spider-Man cinematic universe.

Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal explains to Entertainment Weekly:

“At the tail end of this movie we set up some of the other characters that will probably end up being in the Sinister Six,”

“We’re going forward on all fronts.”

Producer Avi Arad also chimes in:

“villains can be very entertaining.”

“It’s not like somebody’s born and they’re a villain. Something happens and it changes their lives. Some people can deal with it – they become the heroes. Some people can’t and hate the world because of what they felt was done to them – they become the villains.”

The line-up for the supervillain movie hasn’t been announced. In the meantime, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are back to reprises their role as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy respectively in the “Amazing Spider-Man 2”, set to be released on May 2. The superhero will face-off against a plethora of villains which includes the like of Dane DeHaan’s Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx takes on the role as the main villain Electro, Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn, Paul Giamatti as The Rhino, and B.J. Novak as Alistair Smythe.
