There is an American remake to the hyper violent Indonesian martial arts film “The Raid: Redemption” on the way! “The Expendables 3” helmer Patrick Hughes is tapped to direct the English-language adaptation of the bloody action film. The original film stars martial-arts experts Iko Uwais who designed the fight choreography with co-star and villain of the movie, Yayan Ruhian. Review aggregator Rottentomatoes.com are one of many sites who agree that the original movie is one of the best films in its genre, scoring a fresh rating of 85%.

“The Raid: Redemption” (2012) Synopsis:

Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, they find themselves stranded on the 6th floor with no way out. The unit must fight their way through the city’s worst to survive their mission.”

Some of our readers may recall an article we posted a month ago which stated that the follow-up to the original, “The Raid: Berandal”,  is probably the most violent action movie ever made. Check out the trailer and early reviews for Sundance for “The Raid: Berandal”. The Gareth Evans directed film is set to be released on March 28. Uwais reprises his role as Rama,  he is supported by Julie Estelle, Alex Abbad, Yayan Ruhian, Mathias Muchus, Tio Pakusadewo, Marsha Timothy, Cecep Arif Rahman, Matsuda Ryuhei, Endo Kenichi and Kitamura Kazuki.

Fans of the original Indonesian martial arts versions are probably just as confused as we are why they are even considering an English remake. It seems that brothers Liam and  Chris Hemsworth have been mentioned as possible candidates for the lead roles in the film. We don’t have any substantial evidence to back up the rumors, only time will tell. The Hemsworth duo will be an interesting choice as leads considering their action based staple of films they have starred in during the last four years. Evans mentioned that Uwais and Yayan Ruhian will lend a hand with the fight scenes in the remake. All is not lost Raid fans!

Production for the English-language adaptation is expected to begin this fall.
