Still in development, the female version of the all-male cast movie series ‘The Expendables‘ is struggling to impress the movie critics. Without one actor being confirmed yet, (although the likes of Meryl Streep, Cameron Diaz and Milla Jovovich are rumoured to join) and only the films synopsis to go on, The ExpendaBelles are feeling the heat from movie critics all over.

Here’s the synopsis:

When America’s Navy SEALs are wiped out trying to penetrate the island lair of a deadly despot who has captured one of the world’s top nuclear scientists, it becomes clear that there is no such thing as the right man for the job and that this is a mission so impossible that only women can handle it. The only way in: some of the world’s deadliest female operatives must pose as high-class call girls shipped in by private plane to satisfy a dictator–and instead save the scientist and the day.

Just think about the possibilities out there to create a truly great all-woman action flick. Yet this is what they come up with? A stereotypical play on sexual female influence to achieve the mission? Really? Deadline reports that Robert Luketic has come on board to direct the feature, his previous projects centred around women while also being insulting to them (Monster-in-Law, The Ugly Truth, Legally Blonde). The film will see Luketic reuniting with his Legally Blonde and The Ugly Truth screenwriters Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah.

Although we can forget about seeing a worthy rival to ‘The Expandables’, I suppose if we put on our ‘shallow-hat’ we will be in for plenty of sexy-female outfits, plays on seduction, and a few action scenes worth watching again.
