HBO has announced the end of Nucky’s bootlegging days. Steve Buscemi will forever be etched into our memories as Nucky Thompson, the corrupt Republican politician and gangster. This is one of the best crime drama TV shows ever made! Sadly, “Boardwalk Empire” will reach the end of the road after the upcoming season 5. The critically acclaimed show will gracefully bow out despite its considerably solid ratings. The premium cable channel made the announcement at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena on Thursday, January 9.
Michael Lombardo, president of programming at HBO, said:
“It has been an incredible honour to bring this powerful and groundbreaking series to our subscribers. Terry Winter [series creator] has created one for the ages.”
Winter added:
“We’re thrilled to get the go-ahead for a fifth season of ‘Boardwalk Empire’. After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, we’ve decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion.”
Martin Scorsese directed the pilot and established the look of the show, which Winter later emulated for consistency. Scorsese is also one of the executive producers, joined by Winter, Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Tim Van Patten. ‘Boardwalk Empire’ received numerous nominations at awards shows, including Golden Globe Award for best drama series in 2011.
