With both consoles now on sale for more than 3 weeks, the battle is pretty intense as to who will hold the crown for the PS4 vs XBox sales and fastest selling console ever.
The first blow came from Sony, which released their PlayStation 4 on the 15th of November. They became the first console to ever sell 1 million PS4’s within the first 24 hours of launch. Microsoft responded after the 22 November release of their Console, the XBox One, claiming they also sold 1 million units within the first 24 hours.
Round 2 began on 3 December, when Sony announced its sold 2.4 million PlayStation 4 units. Microsoft responded Yesterday that the The Xbox One sold 2 million units in 13 countries over an 18-day period, according to a blog post from Microsoft on Wednesday.
Over at the PlayStation Blog marketing senior VP Guy Longworth said:
“This afternoon we learned from market research firm NPD Group that PS4 was the top-selling console for November and PlayStation was #1 in sales overall for home consoles. This news comes on the heels of yesterday’s confirmation that the PS4 launch is the biggest ever in the history of game consoles.”
Over at Microsoft in an announcement posted to Xbox Wire, Microsoft announced it sold 909,132 Xbox One units in November, making it “the fastest selling console on the market in the U.S.” Over the course of the nine day reporting period, Xbox One sold more than 100,000 consoles per day on average, “significantly outpacing the nearest competitor,” according to Microsoft.
The battle seems to be pretty intense, with Microsoft ‘seemingly’ taking the lead in the states, but Sony the leader for the rest of the globe?
We’ll have to wait and see…
