If you are lucky enough to jet off to the Caribbean or take a cruise to the Portuguese Islands I am sure it’s safe to assume that your holidays will not be a boring affair. For those of you stuck at home on your comfy couch, working your way through a big back of potato chips and a six pack of beer, feel free to check out what Netflix has in store. ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’ (2012-2013) — Starring Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Zachary Quinto and Sarah Paulson. The second installment of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s TV horror anthology takes us to an insane asylum run by the sadistic Sister Jude.
‘C.O.G.’ (2013) — Starring Jonathan Groff, Denis O’Hare, and Corey Stoll. A cocky young man travels to Oregon to work on an apple farm. Out of his element, he finds his lifestyle and notions being picked apart by everyone who crosses his path.
TOP RATED ON ROTTENTOMATOES – ‘Blackfish’ (2013) – Notorious killer whale Tilikum is responsible for the deaths of three individuals, including a top killer whale trainer. Blackfish shows the sometimes devastating consequences of keeping such intelligent and sentient creatures in captivity.
‘The Short Game’ (2013) – The best 7 year old golfers from around the world descend on the world famous Pinehurst Golf course in North Carolina to determine the next world champion and who might become golf’s next phenomenon.
‘Chocolate’ (2008) — Starring JeeJa Yanin, Hiroshi Abe, and Pongpat Wachirabunjong. An autistic girl with powerful martial art skills looks to settle her ailing mother’s debts by seeking out the ruthless gangs that owe her family money.
‘Drinking Buddies’ (2013) — Starring Olivia Wilde, Jake Johnson, and Anna Kendrick. Luke and Kate are co-workers at a Chicago brewery, where they spend their days drinking and flirting. They’re perfect for each other, except that they’re both in relationships.
‘The Guilt Trip’ (2012) — Starring Seth Rogen, Barbra Streisand, and Adam Scott. As inventor Andy Brewster is about to embark on the road trip of a lifetime, a quick stop at his mom’s house turns into an unexpected cross-country voyage with her along for the ride.
‘The Iron Lady’ (2011) — Starring Meryl Streep, Jim Broadbent, and Alexandra Roach. An elderly Margaret Thatcher talks to the imagined presence of her recently deceased husband as she struggles to come to terms with his death while scenes from her past life, from girlhood to British prime minister, intervene.
‘Sherlock Holmes’ (2009) — Starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams. Detective Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England.
‘As I Lay Dying’ (2013) — Starring James Franco, Danny McBride, and Logan Marshall-Green. Based on the 1930 classic by Faulkner, it is the story of the death of Addie Bundren and her family’s quest to honor her wish to be buried in the nearby town of Jefferson.
