Despite the fact that Jigsaw’s killing spree ended in 2010 with “Saw 3D”, Cinemablend.com reports that there is an eighth installment in the works. After a three year break, Lionsgate is looking at reviving the horror franchise created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Since the franchise was launched in 2004, “Saw” graced the silver screen annually to tell Jigsaw’s story.

Obvious loop holes in the “The Last Chapter” allowed some wiggle space for the horror franchise to continue the storyline. Lionsgate is committed to finding “the perfect take to move forward” and they are reportedly in no rush so that they can get this right.

This will definitely push back James Wan’s plans to move away from the horror genre as he once said:

“I’m going to go on record and say I am finished with the horror genre. ‘Conjuring’ and ‘Insidious 2’ are my two last scary movies,”

The horror genre is smashing box-office records this year, I suppose riding the wave from recent successes makes sense from a financial perspective. One question does however come to mind, does anyone still have the stomach and enthusiasm to watch another Jigsaw’s movie?
