A new trailer for the upcoming biopic for Nelson Mandela has been released. “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” is based on South African President Nelson Mandela’s autobiography of the same name.

“Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”celebrates Nelson Mandela’s extraordinary journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his election as President of South Africa. It explores the Mandela unknown to most of the world – the lover of fancy cars, a ladies’ man, the boxing enthusiast and playboy, the skillful lawyer and freedom fighter.  The film is an intimate portrait of the making of a modern icon.

The trailer gives a sneak peek at Nelson Mandela’s (portrayed by “Pacific Rim” star Idris Elba) sentencing, his time spent in prison and his wife’s (Winnie Mandela portrayed by Naomie Harris “Skyfall”) attempt to release him.

In addition to the launch of the trailer, two new clips have also been released. The first clip focuses on Mandela’s journey to lead his people to freedom by entering a train for Europeans only. The second clip peeks at the title character as a lawyer, defending a black woman accused of stealing by her former employer.

The biopic of the legendary freedom fighter is helmed by English actor and television/ film director Justin Chadwick. The film is also supported by Tony Kgoroge and Terry Pheto. “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” is set to be released on November 29.
