Hugh Jackman aka The Wolverine has officially signed up for South African director Neill Blomkamp’s next film called Chappie. Hugh Jackman’s addition will be a massive boost for this film.  The actor confirmed the news himself during a Q&A session at the Zurich Film Festival. When asked about his upcoming projects, he said,

“But I am doing a role in Neill’s new film, called Chappie, which we shoot in Johannesburg. I’m there for a couple of weeks at the beginning of next year.”

There’s no word on who he will be playing in the film, but he joins Sharlto Copley (District 9, Elysium) as well as Die Antwoord rap-rave duo Ninja and Yolandi Visser. The film will be based on one of Blomkamp’s earlier short films; the film-maker himself confirmed as much saying that Chappie is “Basically based on Tetra Vaal.” Check here for the short film. The robot will retain his rabbit ears, which are a distinct homage to the robot character Briareos Hecatonchires from the manga/anime, Appleseed.
