This heading alone may sound like blasphemy coming from an avid Tolkien fan, but if you look at the direction Peter Jackson is taking with The Hobbit Trilogy then bringing back some of the original characters is a real possibility. Not only will this assist in what Jackson is doing with the Trilogy, but it will undoubtedly be more popular among the majority of all movie fans.

Every Tolkien fan will respond with a resounding  ‘No! Are you crazy! Stop changing the books!‘ Seeing as Peter Jackson is creating The Hobbit Trilogy as a bridge-over between The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, is it really unfair to expect some of the original cast to make an appearance? After the first Hobbit movie it is clear that Peter Jackson is adding to the Hobbit stories from “Pre-Hobbit” Tolkien lore. How else would you be able to make a trilogy from a kids book? The general consensus of this ‘adding’ to the movies was received relatively well by the fans, because it’s still true Tolkien lore. Some of these added scenes are Azok  the pale Orc that is mentioned only twice in The Hobbit, as well as the Wizard, Radagast the Brown that never features in The Hobbit.

We already know Gollum, Legolas, Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel returns, but it would be perfect if the following beloved Tolkien Characters make a return to the remaining two Hobbit movies. 7 Characters from The Lord of the Rings we want to see in The Hobbit Trilogy:

Aragorn

Aragorn

Viggo shot those rumours down by saying that it didn’t make sense for him to return. Seeing as Peter Jackson is bridging the gap, there are a few scenes that would have worked  in order to ease the transition from ‘The Hobbit’ to ‘Lord of the Rings’. Even if only a small cameo. Aragorn grew up with the Elves, so showing a scene with a young (roughly 10 years old) Aragorn learning how to fight with a sword would be awesome.

Arwen

We’ve already seen Cate Blanchett’s Galadriel and as most people are aware the film does need some more female faces. Jackson has already controversially included Evangeline Lily’s Tauriel to add some feminine charm, but that seems silly when he has Arwen right there. Jackson should have Arwen accompany her grandmother during one of the council scenes, just as a nice Easter egg for fans.

Merry, Pippin, Sam and Frodo

It would be perfect if at the end of “There and Back Again”, the third movie we are shown a scene where 3 hobbit children are playing, they are of course Merry, Pippin and Sam. Maybe even Frodo as well.

Gimli

Gimli

Gimli’s father Gloin is one of the dwarves in Bilbo Baggin’s group that is trying to reclaim Erebor. Gimli also would have been alive during the events of the Hobbit, so if they’re going to include Legolas in ‘Desolation of Smaug’ why not include Gimli. I’m thinking a little scene at the end where Thranduil (Legolas’ father) and Gloin meet alongside their prospective children, hinting at the friendship that is to come in ‘Lord of the Rings’.

What characters do you think would make a nice cameo? Seeing as Peter Jackson is also adding stories from pre-Hobbit lore, which stories can be added?
