“Pacific Rim” is off to a slow start considering the extensive marketing campaign and hype that was surrounding the initial release date, the Science Fiction film is playing in 3275 theaters. “Pacific Rim” lands at No. 3 with approximately $38.3 million. Still, del Toro has at least a reason to smile as the result is the highest debut ever for him ahead of 2008’s “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” with $34.5 million.
After two weeks playing in theaters, “Despicable Me 2” is still going strong by taking in another $44.8 million approximately with “Grown Ups 2” short on its heels which opened to an estimated $42.5 million in the second place. “Pacific Rim” came in at third with a steady $38.3 million approximately.
The action-heavy epic adventure film from director Guillermo del Toro, is well received by critics as “Pacific Rim” scores a 72% on the Tomatometer.
