The clock will start ticking again on Fox’s real-time thriller 24, which stars Kiefer Sutherland as counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer and ended its eight-season run in 2010. Fox network confirmed plans to restart the action packed series earlier in May, the standalone series will be called “24: Live Another Day”. Exciting news have been announced for the series as Evan Katz, “24” executive producer, has signed on to produce “24: Live Another Day”. 20th Century Fox Television shared the good news  on Friday, June 21. Evan is the show’s longest serving writer, proving to be one of the best scribes for the multi-award winning show. He won the Writers Guild Award for the first episode he wrote for the gripping series, which aired in October 2002.

Jack Bauer “Kiefer Sutherland”

The high-octane saga reunites Howard Gordon with Sutherland and retains the real-time, fast-paced format with split screens and complex interweaving story-lines, with 12 episodes representing 24 hours. Set several years after the events of Season 8, the series will loosely adhere to the real-time concept.

The entertainment giant is planning two seasons for 2014. Producer Howard Gordon, now working on Homeland and other series, “always had the idea of maybe someday doing a feature film” on the series. The show is designed as a stand-alone, one-time event but potentially could come back for more.

“The outpouring of love we’ve heard since we announced this has been unbelievable.” – Howard Gordon

Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly was exited to break the news:

“The new season, one of two “limited series” Fox plans for 2014, will be compressed into 12 weeks”

“We’ll go in chronological order with the hours of the day, but we’ll skip some hours,”

Hopefully the series will come back with the usual in-depth story-lines by retaining the originality its so well-known for. Will “Live Another Day” stand on its own or will it be an afterthought, riding on the success of the first critically acclaimed seasons? It will be difficult for the team to top the legendary 8 seasons which has been hailed as one of the best TV series ever made, however with Katz on-board we should expect a humdinger. Fox network has seen their ratings fall by 20% this season, the revival of 24 will be crucial to see them recover from the decline.

24: Live Another Day premieres on FOX in May of 2014.
