We finally have our next Eric Draven. Relativity Media identified Luke Evans as the lead role. The Crow is one of our 10 reboots we really look forward to.
* Update: Luke Evans comments on The Crow and Comic Book Integrity
* Update: ‘The Walking Dead’ Star Norman Reedus to Join Cast of ‘The Crow’ Remake?
The reboot has seen many creative teams come and go, including the likes of Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg, and James McAvoy for the lead role and film-makers Stephen Norrington, Nick Cave, and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo eager to steer the project in the directors chair. Now, Ed Pressman has F. Javier Gutierrez lined up the director with a script from Cliff Dorfman “Warrior”. Rumors initially where that Eric Draven will be played by Tom Hiddleston (Loki from “Thor”).
You may recognize Luke as Zeus in Immortals. We will also see him in the next Hobbit film as Bard the Bowman, as well as Dracula in Dracula Year Zero.
I sincerely hope this works out for Luke, the Crow has a huge cult following and you do not want to screw this up again. We already had many pointless and pathetic sequels and reboot attempts, this time we have our hopes high that this reboot will be a worthy companion to the original.
I can’t think of a single good reason to re-make this production. Not one. No matter how good the cast and crew might be, there’s no good reason. The Crow might not be as film-literature important as Citizen Kane, but it’s on that same list of “shit that was perfect the first time, just walk away poseur boy”.
Johnkzin: Your comment is on point. It is unbelievable to think that production studios would even consider remaking a film that has reached cult status before the movie was launched, because of Brandon Lee’s untimely death. A good example would be casting someone else as the joker in a follow-up film after Heath ledger’s passing. Whether we like it or not, the imagination-less Hollywood movie machine is recycling our favourite cult classics.
NO NO NO Hollywood needs to leave movies alone. Especially this one. Bad enough they butchered it with horrible sequels, and a god awful series. They want to touch this movie, then release it with the edited footage which helps to understand the storyline better. Luke Evans? Seriously? The guy is a horrible actor.
