Our favourite messaging app WhatsApp is in negotiations with Google regarding an acquisition. Will Google chow-down and make yet another Billion dollar acquisition, as they did with Instagram?
We all love WhatsApp, we are all using it. The rumours are rife, and where there’s smoke, there’s bound to be fire.
Here’s the facts: WhatsApp is consistently the number one paid app in just about ever App store out there, its spread across more than 100 countries and 750 mobile networks. That must be a massive user base! On New Years Eve 2012 alone WhatsApp saw a record 18 billion messages processed in a day.
These facts is probably what is giving them the Billion Dollar leg to stand on, the question is will Google go for such an insane amount of money?
Remember Google is playing catch-up when it comes to the mobile messaging game. They simply do not have anything. Messaging apps seem to be hot territory these days. It is one place in the market where it is not being dominated by one specific company, the user base is consumed by smaller apps like LINE, WeChat, Nimbuzz, Tango, KakaoTalk, Facebook and of course Whatsapp. Facebook is pushing it’s mobile chat app extremely hard, and seems like Google decided to do the same.
We will have to wait and see where this goes. All we know is, the owners of WhatsApp must be feeling pretty good right now, it is a dream come true isn’t it? Google knocking on your door with a Billion Dollar cheque?
