What will be the fate of Sauron in Amazon’s Rings of Power season 2?
This is the question all the non-Tolkien fans may be asking? And although most of us know it ends with “Last Alliance“, what happened before that? No doubt Amazon will want to drag this out for as long as possible, making “The Last Alliance” (which was his pre-ultimate downfall ) seen possibly only at the end of the entire series.
Let’s take a quick recap:
How many rings were there again? The Rings of Power were divided into three groups: the Three Rings, the Seven Rings, and the Nine Rings. The Three Rings were made by the Elven-smiths Celebrimbor and Cirdan, without Sauron’s knowledge or influence, and were free of his control. They were given to the Elven leaders Galadriel, Elrond, and Gandalf. The Seven Rings were given to the Dwarves and were made with Sauron’s help. They were meant to enhance the Dwarves’ natural abilities, but instead, they caused greed and a desire for gold. The Nine Rings were given to Men, and they eventually became the Nazgul, Sauron’s most feared servants. The One Ring, also known as the Ruling Ring or the Master Ring, was created by Sauron himself in secret, with the goal of controlling the other Rings. It was the most powerful of all the Rings and could only be destroyed by throwing it into the fires of Mount Doom in Mordor, where it was forged.
In the Second Age, Sauron was able to create the Rings of Power and deceived many of the Elves and Dwarves into accepting them, thereby giving him a foothold in their societies. Sauron forged the One Ring to control the other Rings, and it became the centerpiece of his power.
As seen in Season 1, the Elves realized that they had been deceived and began to hide their rings.
Meanwhile, the Men who had accepted the rings became corrupted and turned into the Nazgul, Sauron’s most feared servants.
We could see the events of the year 3429 of the Second Age, when Sauron launched an all-out assault on the Elves of Eregion, seeking to reclaim the rings and dominate Middle-earth. However, the Elves were able to delay Sauron long enough for Gil-galad, the Elven High King, and Elendil, the first King of Men, to form the Last Alliance and march against him.
About the Last Alliance:
The Last Alliance was made up of Elves, Men, and Dwarves who united to defeat Sauron (This is the Lord of the Rings movies Intro). The leaders of the alliance, Gil-galad and Elendil, fought together and were able to defeat Sauron in a long and bloody battle. However, both Gil-galad and Elendil were killed in the process. After Sauron’s defeat, the One Ring was cut from his hand by Isildur, Elendil’s son. However, rather than destroying the Ring, Isildur kept it as a trophy, and it eventually passed down to his descendants.
The events of “The Lord of the Rings” take place many years later, when Sauron has returned to power and is seeking to regain the Ring. The story centers around Frodo Baggins, a Hobbit who is entrusted with the task of destroying the Ring, and his companions, including the wizard Gandalf, the warrior Aragorn, and the Elf Legolas. They must evade the Nazgul and other dangers as they journey to Mount Doom to destroy the Ring and defeat Sauron once and for all.
So What will happen to Sauron?
We will see Sauron grow in power, Mordor become what we know it to be, causing the land to become dark and forbidding. We will see his role in the forging of the other rings of power, and possibly end the season with Sauron handing them over to the Dwarves. That is not a lot really, but we doubt we will see even this much on season 2.
