In no particular order, let’s kick off the list of 13 Most Recent Shocking TV Deaths
1. Jon Snow – Game of Thrones
Talk about a huge spoiler, Thank You Internet! It was only a matter of time before John got the axe….. or should I say knife! What else can we expect from one of the most popular shows on television right now which is undoubtedly provided the most epic deaths. We will never forgive the crows for their betrayal. Long live Jon Snow!
2. The Red Wedding – Game of Thrones
What started out to be a joyous occasion turned out to be one of the biggest blood baths in Game of Thrones since its debut. It is bad enough to endure one beloved character to receive the chop from the show, but ending families? Damn! Robb’s wife Talisa got stabbed in the stomach killing both her and their unborn baby. Rob received many arrows and was finished off with a sword, and Catelyn’s throat was carved open.
3. King Joffrey – Game of Thrones
As much as we love to hate King Joffrey, it is really hard to admit that we miss the arrogant little twerp. As shocking as it is, true fans of the show who has never read the books would have known that his death was coming. The timing was the problem, most of us expected him to die later in the series. Bittersweet! A cowardly murder for a cowardly King!
4. Violet Harmon – American Horror Story: Murder House
Still one of my most favorite horror series of all time, “American Horror Story – Murder House” is still the best season to date. The house with many secrets may have surprised some fans of the show when we eventually discovered that Violet Harmon, the family daughter, overdosed on pills and discover her own body as a ghost weeks later.
5. Hank Schrader – Breaking Bad
We knew that Breaking Bad’s Hank Schrader would eventually uncover all that Walter White was hiding. Many fans of the show were just as shocked as we were when he was killed. We expected Hank to die a couple of times, especially after his long recovery when his assassination attempt by the twins was botched. We loved the cat and mouse game between Hank and Walter, most geeks will agree that this death was inevitable but still surprising.
6. Nic Brody – Homeland
It is not often that you see producers take a ballsy stance to off one of the leading characters in a series. As intriguing as Homeland is, we expected the show to take a turn for the worse by killing Brody. Actually seeing him die on the show was still a shocking moment considered he was the backbone of the story. Some might even say it was a mercy because of his affliction.
7. James Darmody – Boardwalk Empire
Michael Pitt really shined in the role as James Darmody, a war veteran looking to establish himself as the biggest gangster in Atlantic City. We never expected Steve Buscemi’s Nucky Thompson to pull a gun on James and end his life, seeing that they had such a close relationship. It was easy to string the events together that would have lead to his death, but most of us didn’t expect Nucky to be the one who pulls the trigger.
8. Harry “Opie” Winston – Sons of Anarchy
Standing as one of the most loyal members of the MC known as the Sons of Anarchy, Opie was one of the most favored characters on the show. He was best friends with the club’s former President, Jax Teller and he just finished a 5 year prison sentence in the Chino State Penitentiary. He ended up in jail again and gave his life to save Jax when both of them had to fend for themselves whilst incarcerated.
9. Eric Northman – True Blood
People either hate or love True Blood, but most fans of the show will agreed that Alexander Skarsgård’s Eric Northman was one of the biggest reasons to watch the series. It was one of the best ways to off a character on a TV show ever. Seeing Eric the vampire naked on a mountaintop in the sunlight was an absolutely brilliant way to end his epic run. Even though his death was shocking, the moment was well received but sad…or is he dead? Watch season 7 to find out!
10. Rita Morgan – Dexter
Rita’s murder by the hand of Arthur Mitchell, The Trinity Killer, was probably one of the most shocking moments in TV history at the time. Dexter fans will agree that a serial killer with a “conscience” will not be a happily married man with kids for a long time. Rita became part of the Morgan family and we all loved the concept of Dexter being married and trying to pursue a normal life. That being said, Dexter can’t be Dexter if he’s not alone and taking care of business. Rita’s death was expected but still shocking nonetheless.
11. Allison Argent– Teen Wolf
MTV’s Teen Wolf is one of the best shows to be featured on the entertainment channel in years. The series is famous for killing off smaller characters but also for bringing them back to life. Series geeks had to do a double take when they realized that Alison was actually killed and will not be returning as the sexy hunter. Dyeing in Scott’s arms, played by Tyler Posey, fans were outraged and disappointed that her run on the show has come to a tragic end. Its okay if you cried a little, some of us did.
12. Lori Grimes – The Walking Dead
Even before the show was really popular we knew that there will be some big deaths in The Walking Dead. We also knew that Rick and Shaun’s conflict over Lori would cause quite a stir, but little did we know that even after Rick killed Shaun, Lori would die soon after. We never knew the extent of the producers’ willingness to push the envelope, but after Lori’s death we knew they meant business and we can expect the worst to come.
13. Lizzie and Mika Samuels – The Walking Dead
Sisters Lizzie and Mika was part of one of the most intriguing side stories of The Walking Dead season 5. Some might agree that Lizzie’s crazy walker fascination, and the “fact” that they are still considered people, would have seen hear dead before the end of the season anyway if she wasn’t killed by Carol. We didn’t see this coming by a long shot. Lizzie’s relentless pursuit to prove that walkers are still people, and by killing her sister to prove that, was very shocking. Knowing that Mika will “wake up” after she killed her, nearly pushed Lizzie over the edge to kill baby Judith as well. Not knowing what Carol was planning to ensure their safety, she took Lizzie to a remote spot and shot her in the head. Wow, epic episode!
