Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendables” will be heading to the small screen courtesy of FOX. The hit action movie franchise starring Stallone is being developed as an event series with the 68-year-old Hollywood veteran executive producing alongside the film’s producer Avi Lerner. Deadline says the TV adaptation is described as “a fun action drama that unites iconic TV stars as a new team of highly-skilled heroes who are on a mission to stop a dangerous terrorist.” Count us in!

At this stage of the production plan no cast members have been announced and it’s unclear if the stars of the original trilogy will be taking part in the upcoming TV show. “The Expendables” film franchise stars include Stallone, Arnold SchwarzeneggerJason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture and Terry Crews to name a few.

Greg Coolidge, Kirk Ward and Shane Brennan (“NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service” and “NCIS: Los Angeles”) are set to write the TV adaptation in addition to serving as executive producers. Brennan will also serve as showrunner for the event series.

The third instalment only managed to rake in $39,3 domestically, while in the foreign market the movie soared with over $166,8 million. That is a whopping worldwide take of $206,1 on a production budget of $90 million. I for one will love to see Stallone have a proper swing at a TV series and hopefully draw a star-studded cast which includes the action heroes for yesteryear. Growing up in the 80’s, most of us idolised the action heroes cast in the “The Expendables”. The nostalgia, cheesy one-liners and the idea of the “good old days” is something to be valued.
